Frequently asked questions

How does Silver Knights’ Online Chess Club work?

We’ve learned a few things about fitting chess into family’s lives this year. The first is that scheduling needs to be flexible. The second is that excited students should get to play a lot of chess. The third is that small group classes need to be small. When you sign up with us, you’ll start by doing a getting started session with one of our coaches, who will talk with you and your child about how things work, what level classes to do, and answer questions. We do these every weekday afternoon at 3:30pm, and if that doesn’t work for you, we can schedule another time.

We have five different levels of small group classes (Pawn, Knight, Bishop, Rook, and Queen) so everyone from brand new beginners (Pawn) through advanced players (Queen) can learn with great coaches in small groups. Pawn classes have a maximum of six students, and other classes have a max of eight. To keep scheduling flexible we have a bunch of different time slots for each level each week, so you can do the same time each week, or do different days as times as your schedule requires.

So much chess!

We offer 6+ broadcast lessons each week on top of the small group classes, plus 3+ tournaments each week. The broadcasts and tournaments are an all you can eat buffet of chess - no matter what your schedule there are a lot of options! If you can come sometimes but not others, that’s okay too.

Start any time, stop any time

When you’re ready, we’re ready. We’re always taking new students of all skill levels. Membership is on a recurring monthly basis, so there’s no long term commitment. When you’re ready to move on, you can cancel your own membership or email us to cancel it.

We’ve brought in some guest coaches like Judit Polgar (the best female chess player ever) and 2018 US Champion Sam Shankland!

Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Not sure if your child will like it? If you try it and it turns out not to be a good fit, you can get a full refund any time during your first two weeks.
